The Taste of a Soul

An abandoned lover
Weeps for missing the taste
Of his sweet darling’s
Mouth upon his
In the human dance
Known as romance

But the taste of a kiss
And the taste of a soul
Are never the same.
Each hold power
To a weak conscience
Swiftly devour

For the taste of a kiss
Can save a fallen man
Guiding to heaven
Or send sinners
Careening to death
In dark places

But the taste of a soul
The God-made paradise
Is both pure and sweet
A sliver small
On the divine hand
Of God Most High

And ah, and ah, and ah
The lifeful soul is sweet
The loss is bitter
Hades’ despair
The deep darkness where
Sinful souls go

And I can only cling
To your soul’s memory
How it graced this earth
Blessed this home;
Life-youth defiled
Is the taste left

I shall dream of your taste
Till in eternity
Our souls meet, be bound
As one again
Until then adieu
Brother most kind

May our hearts be
Forever entwined
