Here is a picture of the cake I put together for him. My first try at an ice cream cake.
If you want to try making an ice cream cake, I would advise building the cake inside a spring form pan and freezing. Then remove the pan and frost the cake. I did not know about this technique till after I put the cake together and it turned out slightly uneven and thus harder to frost.
If you are using whipped cream frosting, refrigerate the frosting you will use for piping while you frost the cake. Otherwise your frosting will start to goo towards the end.
This particular cake is a banana split ice cream cake. Which means it has two banana cake layers, one strawberry ice cream layer, and one chocolate ice cream layer. No-churn ice cream is surprisingly easy to make.
