Spring

Flowers budding in the yard
A sky so blue it breaks my heart
The hot sunshine raining down
Its light reflecting off Mary’s crown

Soft, green grass everywhere
And the wind blowing in my hair
The call of spring is all around
Calling us to dance across the ground

And yet, I stand here in that warm sun
On the soft budding grass, my heart undone
As I raise a handful of that dancing ground
Above your open grave and toss it down

For you have taken the spring from my heart
And my soul and mind are torn apart
Every time I remember how you laughed
For what I didn’t know was the last

Oh come back, come back my brother
If not for me or my friends, for our mother
My eternal, ever-flowing fountain of spring
For her spring is wilted and crying is her king
