Crochet a gift bag

So you don’t want to buy wrapping paper or a gift bag …and you happen to have some yarn lying around …well, let’s crochet a gift bag.

Putting in the extra effort makes the recipient feel that much more loved; which worked out really well since my gift was a wedding present and needed to be special.

One of the great things about creating your own gift bag is the ability to customize it to fit how you want it too:

This bag was fairly simple. I freehanded rather than finding an actual pattern. Taking a multi-colored yarn I crocheted two squares a bit wider on all sides than the movie. Then I crocheted a bottom as wide as the movie’s side. The next step was crocheting the flap: after crocheting a rectangle identical to the bottom I started slanting in by three loops for each row until the flap was the size I wanted it to be. (Don’t forget as you reach the right size of flap to leave a hole for the button) Then I simply crocheted these all together and added the button. The last step was the handle; for the handle I followed this youtube tutorial: https://youtu.be/PTz2wILqisY

Now, let’s be honest: there is always a birthday, anniversary, or some random reason to give a gift happening within the next couple weeks. So let this next gift you give be one to have a DIY bag fit to it. And here’s the best part …the bag is in no way limited to crochet. You can definitely make it out of paper, cloth, wood, or even balloons if you want!
